Dr. Sarah Dirks
Dr. Dirks started Geriatric Dental Group of South Texas, PA in 2006. She has received fellowship training in Geriatric Dentistry at the Audie Murphy VA and UTHSCSA systems. She is currently an adjunct faculty at the UTHSCSA Dental School. Geriatric Dental Group provides clinical rotations for dental hygiene and assistant students Dr. Dirks serves on the DentaQuest DSM board of directors, the Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors Healthy Aging Committee, and as the ADA representative for the Joint Commission’s Home Care Advisory Committee. She is a member of the Texas Dental Association, the Texas Association of Long Term Care Facility Dentists, and Special Care Dentistry. She has served on the Board of Directors of the Texas Oral Health Coalition as chair of the adult subcommittee and the American Association of Community Dental Programs.
Dr. Dirks lectures frequently on geriatric dentistry and is passionate about linking dentistry with mainstream health care. Dr. Dirks has provided continuing education for the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Quality Monitoring Program, the Texas Geriatrics Society, the Texas Medical Directors Association, the American Geriatrics Society, and NICHE, (Nurses Improving Care for Healthysystem Elders). She has been consistently voted as a “Top Dentist” by her peers.
Dr. Dirks’ passion is to improve the oral care of seniors by partnering with advocates who promote healthy aging. The entire GDG team participates in opportunities that expand oral health awareness to those who help family members remain at home. Dr. Dirk’s clinical time is largely spent providing “denture makeovers” for long time denture wearers and personalized solutions for first time denture wearers with or without implants.
